Benjamin Bernheim (* 1985 in Paris ) is a French lyric tenor, known for his interpretations in Italian and French.

Benjamin Bernheim was born in Paris and grew up in Geneva, where he studied violin and piano before taking singing lessons at the local conservatory at the age of 10. At the age of 18 he began his studies at the HEM Lausanne Conservatory (now HEMU) under the supervision of Gary Magby.

After completing his studies, he was accepted into the opera studio of the Zurich Opera House for the 2008/2009 season .

Career

Bernheim joined the ensemble of the Zurich Opera House in 2010 , where he a. a. sang the role of Emmanuele at the world premiere of Marc-André Dalbavies Gesualdo , directed by Moshe Leiser and Patrice Caurier .

In 2012 he made his debut at the Salzburg Festival as Agenore in Il re pastore by Mozart in the concert performance of the opera under the direction of William Christie . Between 2012 and 2015 he expanded his repertoire to include several roles, in particular Cassio ( Otello ) , Narraboth ( Salome ) , Tebaldo ( I Capuleti ei Montecchi ) , Matteo ( Arabella ) , Tamino ( The Magic Flute ) , Spakos (Cléopâtre) , and Eginhard ( Fierrabras ) . He also made his debut at the Opéra national de Bordeaux , the Semperoper Dresden and at the Whitsun and Summer Festival in Salzburg.

In the 2015/16 season he made his debut in major tenor roles at opera houses in Europe and the USA. His repertoire includes Rodolfo in La Bohème , Des Grieux in Manon , Alfredo in La traviata , the title role in Faust , Nemorino in L'elisir d'amore , the tenor roles in Verdi's Requiem and Puccini's Messa di Gloria, and Lenski in Eugene Onegin . He is a frequent guest of the Zurich Opera House , the Royal Opera House in London, the Berlin State Opera , Deutsche Oper , Semperoper Dresden, Vienna State Opera , Opéra national de Paris , the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées and Opera national de Bordeaux , the Teatro alla Scala in Milan and the Salzburg Whitsun and Easter Festival.

In 2018 Bernheim signed an exclusive contract with Deutsche Grammophon , where his debut album was released on November 8, 2019.

La Bohème at the Zurich Opera House marked the start of his 2018/19 season . He could be seen again as Rodolfo at the Vienna State Opera, where immediately afterwards he performed Tamino in the Magic Flute . Further opera performances in 2018/19 included La traviata at the Royal Opera House and La Scala in Milan , as well as Manon at the Opéra national Bordeaux. In July he made his role debut as Ismaele in Verdi's Nabucco at the Zurich Opera House. Bernheim performed in concert in Puccini's Messa di Gloria with the London Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Sir Antonio Pappano and at the open air concert on the occasion of the celebrations of “150 Years of the State Opera on the Ring”.

In the 2019/20 season, the French tenor gave a recital in La Grange au Lac, a concert in the Auditorium de Bordeaux with the Orchester National Bordeaux Aquitaine and his role debut as Duca in Rigoletto at the Bavarian State Opera . At the Staatsoper Unter den Linden he appeared again as Rodolfo in La Bohème .
