Stuart Lancaster

Stuart Lancaster (born November 30, 1920 in Evanston , Illinois , † December 22, 2000 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actor .

Life

Lancaster was born as a descendant of the Ringling family and grew up in Sarasota , Florida . He first began studying art, but in 1936 decided to study acting at the Cleveland Playhouse in Ohio. During World War II he served in the United States Air Force , after which he continued his training with the American Theater Wing.

In 1952 he opened the Palm Tree Playhouse in Sarasota, which existed until 1962 and devoured much of his legacy. Lancaster now moved to Hollywood , where he soon began receiving minor television roles. In 1965 he made his feature film debut in Russ Meyer's Im Garten der Lust and subsequently took part in a total of six Meyer's films, including Die Satansweiber von Tittfield and Supervixens - Eruption . With the beginning of the 1980s, his film and television appearances became less frequent, instead he returned to the theater. In Los Angeles he appeared in numerous modern classics; he played Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman and Big Jule in Guys and Dolls .

In the early 1990s, Tim Burton gave him minor roles in two of his films, Edward Scissorhands and Batman's Return . In 1993 he had a stroke while performing at the theater ; after that he only appeared on stage a few times, in extras.

Lancaster was married a total of six times. His last marriage was to actress Ivy Bethune from 1971 until his death. He also left four sons and one daughter.
