Benjamin Brial

Benjamin Brial (born June 9, 1923 in Mata-Utu , Wallis and Futuna , † November 12, 2004 ibid) was a French politician. From 1967 to 1988 he was a member of the National Assembly .

Brial was the son of a merchant with French-Catalan roots and a queen in Wallis and Futuna. From 1942 he took part in the French resistance as a volunteer and was later honored for it. Like his father, he worked as a businessman and was active in the tourism sector. He has also been politically active since the 1950s, including supporting integration into the French republic, which was achieved in a referendum in 1959. In 1967 he was elected to the National Assembly for Wallis and Futuna, where he joined the Gaullists . After being re-elected several times, he resigned from the National Assembly in 1988. The nephew of Benjamin Brial, who died in 2004, was Victor Brial .
