Life

Captain Hornigold left New Providence with "Blackbeard" Edward Thatch in his crew. He captured a sloop , which he put under Thatch. They looted six ships off the American coast in 1717 and went on a foray into the Caribbean . On November 28, 1717, they captured a French ship full of gold, precious stones, slaves and other loot, the La Concorde under the command of Captain Pierre Dosset . Hornigold handed the La Concorde over to Blackbeard, who renamed it Queen Anne's Revenge . After that, they parted ways. Four crew members from La Concorde joined Blackbeard. Others were released by Blackbeard on the Grenadine island of Bequia . The rest of the crew, including the cook, surgeon and pilot, were pressed into service by Blackbeard. The total value of the booty was over £ 1,000.

Blackbeard went to America and Hornigold to New Providence. When Woodes Rogers , also a former pirate, was appointed governor of the Bahamas, Hornigold accepted his offer of royal pardon. Rogers hired Hornigold to hunt down other pirates, including John Auger and Charles Vane . In 1719 Hornigold was sent on a trade trip to Mexico. His ship ran into a reef offshore and sank. The entire crew and Hornigold himself were killed.
