Benjamin Idelson

Benjamin Idelson ( Hebrew בנימין אידלסון, born April 1, 1911 in Saint Petersburg , Russian Empire ; died November 30, 1972 in Tel Aviv , Israel ) was an Israeli architect.

Life

Idelson emigrated to Palestine in 1925 , studied architecture at Ghent University and returned to Palestine in 1934. He designed many public buildings in Israel, such as for the University of Tel Aviv and the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot . Between 1948 and 1964 he worked with Arieh Sharon in a joint architecture office in Tel Aviv. One of the most important projects of Idelson was designed together with Arieh Sharon and in 1955 completed Soroka Medical Center in Be'er Sheva . In 1957 he and Sharon received the Rokach Prize for the design of the Bejt Lessin Theater in Tel Aviv. In 1964 he separated from Sharon and entered into a partnership with the architect Gershon Zippor.

In 1968 he received the Israel Prize for Architecture.
