Benjamin Mays
Benjamin Elijah Mays (* 1. August 1894 in Greenwood ( South Carolina ); † 28. March 1984 ) was an American teacher, a Baptist pastor and from 1940 to 1967, the president of Morehouse College in Atlanta . He was also a mentor to Martin Luther King . In 1971 Mays was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .
Mays was the youngest of eight children. His parents were former slaves.
