Benjamin Moloise

Benjamin Moloise (* 1955 in Alexandra ; † October 18, 1985 in Pretoria ) was a South African poet and political activist.

Life

The supporter of the then banned African National Congress (ANC) worked in a factory and was sentenced to death after a confession of murdering a black police officer in 1982 . Despite the retraction of his torture statements, he was hanged in Pretoria Central Prison against international appeals for clemency . His execution by the apartheid regime led to international protests and street battles in South Africa.
