The Promise of a New Day is a pop - / R & B -Song by Peter Lord and V. Jeffrey Smith, who is with the US Pop - and R & B - singer and dancer Paula Abdul produced. The song was released in July 1991 as the second single from Abdul's second studio album Spellbound .

The single became a number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 and in Canada on September 14, 1991 . This made it Abdul's sixth consecutive number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100, which had previously only been achieved by the Beatles , the Bee Gees and Whitney Houston . It is their last number one hit to date, as Abdul's commercial success waned rapidly with the next released single, Blowing Kisses in the Wind . The single version of the song is 4:17 minutes, the album version 4:32 minutes.
