Forever Your Girl is a pop / R&B song by US singer Paula Abdul from 1989. The song was written and produced by Oliver Leiber .

The song was released as a single in the spring of 1989, but appeared on the album of the same name in mid-1988. The track is 4:15 minutes long in the single version and 4:57 minutes in the album version. The single ranked number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks in May 1989 and became Abdul's second number one hit. The title was awarded gold in the US for more than half a million units sold .

history

The song is about a loving relationship. The female protagonist and singer sings: Despite the rumors that others may be interested in me, I don't care and just stick to my dear loyal husband. So she "will always be his girl (girl, woman)." The single version differs slightly from the album version, as the single version uses a male voice as background vocals and a slightly modified instrumentation is used.

The song was part of the medley Abdul sang at the 1989 MTV Video Music Awards .

Music video

The music video was directed by David Fincher , it shows Paula Abdul as an actress , dancer , choreographer and head of a children's dance group (7-year-old Trevor Wright , 8-year-old Elijah Wood and 10-year-old Nikki Cox ), they thought together the performance. It was Wood's first appearance. The Forever-Your-Girl video spent two weeks at number 1 on the MTV charts.

The music video was a success on MTV and made Paula Abdul known for her cheesy, controversial , dance music videos with her own elaborate choreographies. The video is a reference to Robert Palmer's music video Addicted to Love , which featured five women dressed in women (black dresses , red lipstick , white makeup and styled hairdos), the women playing guitars, keyboards and drums in Palmer’s video.

Forever Your Girl spent two weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 in May 1989 , in Canada the single was also Paula's second number one hit in 1989, in the United Kingdom the single reached number 24 in the singles chart and in Germany number 17 Single charts .
