Head over Heels is the third music album by the singer Paula Abdul from 1995.
background
Paula Abdul released her third music album, Head over Heels, on June 13, 1995 under Virgin Records , after Abdul had previously struggled with a disease of bulimia that kept her from her career for four years. Abdul hoped to land in the limelight of the music scene again with her comeback album. However, this album was the last that she released in her career, later Abdul withdrew from the music business and devoted himself to acting .
For Head over Heels , Abdul hired new producers and made a style change to contemporary R&B , the songs on the album have a stronger R&B influence than Abdul's earlier work. The first single My Love Is For Real gave critics and fans a taste of their new R&B style, the reviews of the single and the album were mixed, unlike the predecessors, which were always praised by critics.
criticism
Many music critics saw Head over Heels as a copy of Abdul's roots in pop music, and some critics saw this album as their most exciting and creative album of their career. The "quieter" tracks on the album, which are not comparable to the sound of their predecessors, were also praised.
Commercial win
Unlike Abdul's previous album, this album was a commercial failure. According to the sales figures, Head over Heals also became the most unsuccessful album in Abdul's career, it was only awarded a gold record in the United States . The album only reached number 18 on the American Billboard 200 and left the album charts after just a few weeks. To date, the album has only sold less than 3 million times worldwide. Due to the failure of her album, Abdul later withdrew from the music scene and devoted himself to acting.
Three songs were released from the album as singles. The first single, My Love is For Real , was only a moderate success, reaching number 28 on the American Billboard Hot 100 , becoming Abdul's first single to miss the US Top 20 and the last hit of her career. The song also reached # 1 on the American dance charts as the only song in her career. The second single Crazy Cool was a flop due to a lack of promotion and only reached number 58 on the Billboard Hot 100. Their last single Ain't Never Gonna Give You Up even missed the Billboard Hot 100, making the song another flop and the most unsuccessful Single in her career. Originally If I Were Your Girl was supposed to be released as a single, but due to the failure of the album and Ain't Never Gonna Give You Up , Abdul no longer thought about a release and withdrew from the music business entirely.
