Benjamin Rawitz

Benjamin Rawitz (born April 24, 1946 in Haifa , Israel; † August 29, 2006 found in Brussels ) was an Israeli pianist.

Rawitz was trained at the conservatory in his hometown and gave his first concert at the age of ten. He continued his studies at the Rubin Academy in Tel Aviv, then at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels to finish at the Geneva Conservatory , where he received his Diplôme Supérieur with distinction and the Prix ​​de Virtuosité .

Both as a soloist and as a chamber musician, he has performed regularly in Europe, Japan, the USA and South America. He played several albums with the violinist Janos Maté . He later taught at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels, as well as at the Chapel Hill Chamber Music Workshop in Chapel Hill (North Carolina) and at the International MusicFest in Aberystwyth (Wales).

The 60-year-old Rawitz was found dead in the basement of his apartment on August 29, 2006; the police assume a robbery and murder.

Rawitz was u. a. Winner of the Mozart Prize (Zurich) and the Albéniz Prize (Barcelona).
