Benjamin Smith (entrepreneur)
Benjamin Smith (born August 27, 1971 in England ) is a Canadian businessman and has been CEO of Air France-KLM since August 2018 .
Life
Smith was born in England, but his mother is from Hong Kong and his father is from Australia . He received a BA in Economics from Western Ontario University .
Aviation career
While studying, Smith began his career in 1990 with Air Ontario , a predecessor of Jazz and a regional subsidiary of Air Canada Express . In 1992, he started a retail business that he ran for eight years.
Air Canada
- In 1999 Smith worked as a consultant for Air Canada .
- In 2007 he became a member of the Air Canada board of directors.
- In 2013, Smith launched the low-cost airline Air Canada Rouge .
- In 2014 he became President of the following airlines: Air Canada , Air Canada Rouge , Air Canada Express and Cargo. Under his leadership, Air Canada has won the title of "Best Airline in North America " seven times .
