Benny Krueger (* 17th July 1899 in Newark , New Jersey ; † 29. July 1967 in Orange , New Jersey) was an American jazz - saxophonist , composer and big band leader in the area of Chicago jazz and popular music .

Krueger took part in the recordings of the Original Dixieland Jass Band in the late 1910s and founded his first band in Chicago in the early 1920s ; she appeared there mainly as a theater band and was occasionally booked as a dance band. During this time, the record label Music Corporation of America began its activities there; Krueger's orchestra was one of the first bands to sign with MCA (along with the Coon-Sanders Nighthawks , Charlie Straight , Isham Jones and Ted Weems ). Bennie Krueger's band soon became known outside of Chicago through its recordings. In November 1931, Krueger recorded with his orchestra Where the Blue of the Night (Meets the Gold of the Day) with singer Bing Crosby , who was selected for his radio show. The band 's signature tune was It's getting Dark on Old Broadway, Honey. Another popular song in 1931 was I Don't Know Why (I Just Do) with singer Smith Ballew.

Krueger has recorded for Gennett, Pathe, Brunswick , Embassy, Columbia Records during his career ; he worked as a composer on the Jule Styne titles Go Home and Sunday .
