Benno Fruchtmann

Benno Fruchtmann (born September 5, 1913 in Meuselwitz , Thuringia ; died November 14, 2004 in Tel Aviv ) was a German - Israeli writer .

Live and act

Benno Fruchtmann was the son of a Jewish family from Poland; he was the older brother of the Bremen director Karl Fruchtmann . After graduating from high school, he attended some arts and crafts schools in Berlin, but was unable to continue his education due to the Nazi race laws. At first he worked as a commercial artist and painter. After the death of his father, he and his older brother ran their father's department store in Leipzig. Under the conditions of the Nazi regime's racial ideology, he first came to Palestine in 1935 , then went back to Germany to free his brothers from the concentration camp. He immigrated to Palestine in 1938, where he worked as an author of radio plays, prose and poetry. He lived in Tel-Aviv, most recently in Raurat Gan. In his prose he addressed traumatic visions of fear and vulnerability. Fruchtmann was a member of the Association of German-Language Writers in Israel .
