Benno Ganser

Benno Ganser OSB (born November 15, 1728 in Munich , † August 5, 1778 in Oberaltaich ) was a German Roman Catholic monk , theologian and naturalist .

Life

After graduating, he entered the Benedictine Abbey in Oberaltaich , where he dealt with theology and natural history. In 1761 he received a silver medal from the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and was accepted there. For his treatise on the use of peat soil , Ganser received another silver medal from the Academy.

In 1763 he became professor of philosophy in Salzburg . After three years he returned to Oberaltaich Abbey, where he taught theology. He died there on August 5, 1778 at the age of 49.
