Benny James

Benny James (* around 1905, † after 1934) was an American jazz musician ( banjo , guitar ).

Live and act

Benny James worked in New York City from the late 1920s a. a. with Chick Webb's Harlem Stompers, Adelaide Hall & Lew Leslies Blackbirds Orchestra ("I Must Have That Man", Brunswick Records , 1928). From the early 1930s he was a member of the Mills Blue Rhythm Band ; he also recorded with King Carter and His Royal Orchestra. In May 1933 he got the opportunity to appear in the Duke Ellington Orchestra as a replacement for guitarist Fred Guy in the Soundie Bundle of Blues (directed and produced by Fred Waller). In the following years he continued to play in the Mills Blue Rhythm Band, as well as Todd Rollins And His Orchestra. In the field of jazz he was involved in 31 recording sessions between 1927 and 1934.
