Benrinnes is a whiskey distillery in Milltown of Edinvillie , Banffshire , Scotland .

history

The distillery at the foot of the 840 m high Ben Rinnes , whose name it later took over, was founded by Peter Mackenzie in 1826, but was destroyed again by a flood in 1829. John Innes rebuilt it in 1835 as Lyne of Ruthrie , but had to sell it to William Smith in 1838, who renamed it Benrinnes . In 1864 the distillery was sold to David Edward of Craigellachie and in 1922 to John Dewar & Sons . With that she came to Distillers Company Limited ( DCL ) in 1925 and ultimately to Diageo . The traditional dishes malthouse were Kastenmälzanlagen (1964 Saladin boxes replaced) which were operated until 1984, since then not have is malt longer manufactured. In 1966 the number of stills was doubled from three to six.

production

The Speyside distillery's water comes from the Scurran and Rowantree Burns. The malt used by Roseisle Maltings near Elgin is only lightly peated . The distillery has a mash tun ( mash tun ) (8.7 t) made of stainless steel and eight wooden fermentation vats ( wash backs ) (together 000000000332000.0000000000332,000 l). It is distilled in two coarse stills ( wash stills ) ( 000000000022935.000000000022,935 l each ), two intermediate stills ( 000000000006364.00000000006,364 l each ) and two spirit stills ( 000000000009292.00000000009,292 l each ) which are heated by steam. The triple distillation is unusual for Scottish distilleries.
