NGC 6871 is an open cluster of Trumpler type IV3p in the constellation Cygnus the northern sky . It has a diameter of 30 arc minutes and an apparent magnitude of 5.2 mag. The cluster is about 5,000 light years from the solar system and is estimated to be 9 million years old.
The object was discovered by William Herschel in 1783 .
