NGC 6876 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E3 in the constellation Peacock on southern sky . It is estimated to be 174 million light years from the Milky Way and about 140,000 light years in diameter. It is the brightest as a member of the ten galaxies NGC 6876 group ( LGG 432 ).
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 6877 , NGC 6880 , IC 4972 , IC 4981 .
The object was discovered by the astronomer John Herschel on June 27, 1835.
