IC 4981 is an irregular galaxy from the Hubble type I / P in the constellation Peacock the southern sky . It is estimated to be 165 million light years from the Milky Way and about 50,000 light years in diameter. Together with NGC 6880 , it forms a gravitationally bound galaxy pair. She is considered a member of the ten galaxies counting NGC 6876 group ( LGG 432 ).
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 6876 , NGC 6877 , IC 4982 , IC 4985 .
The object was discovered by DeLisle Stewart on September 21, 1900 .
