NGC 6901 = IC 5000 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBab in the constellation Eagle in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 220 million light years from the Milky Way and about 90,000 light years in diameter . Possibly it forms a gravitationally bound galaxy pair together with NGC 6906 .
The type IaP supernova SN 2004da was observed here.
The object was discovered on August 15, 1863 by Albert Marth (listed as an NGC object) and on September 29, 1891 by Guillaume Bigourdan (listed as an IC object).
