IC 4980 is a lenticular galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type SB0 / a in the constellation Peacock in the southern sky . It is an estimated 200 million light years from the Milky Way and about 90,000 light years in diameter.
The galaxy IC 4973 is located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by DeLisle Stewart on October 3, 1901 .
