IC 4972 is a spiral galaxy of the Hubble type Sbc in the constellation Peacock in the southern sky . It is an estimated 158 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 55,000 ly. a. the galaxies NGC 6872 , NGC 6876 , NGC 6877 , IC 4970 .

The object was discovered by DeLisle Stewart on September 21, 1900 .
