IC 4956 is an elliptical galaxy of the Hubble type E1 in the constellation Telescope in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 510 million light years from the Milky Way and about 75,000 light years in diameter.
Together with PGC 64314 , PGC 64383 and PGC 64389 it forms the IC 4956 group .
The object was discovered by Lewis Swift on July 22, 1897 .
