IC 4944 is a lens-shaped galaxy of the Hubble type S0 / a in the constellation Telescopium in the southern sky . It is an estimated 254 million light years from the Milky Way and about 70,000 light years across.
In the same area of the sky there are still u. a. the galaxies NGC 6850 , NGC 6854 , NGC 6867 , IC 4941 .
The object was discovered by Royal Harwood Frost on August 31, 1904 .
