IC 4947 is a cD galaxy of the Hubble type E3 in the constellation Telescopium in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 626 million light years from the Milky Way and about 150,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies IC 4941 , IC 4942 , IC 4961 .
The object was discovered by Royal Harwood Frost on August 31, 1904 .
