IC 4947 is a cD galaxy of the Hubble type E3 in the constellation Telescopium in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 626 million light years from the Milky Way and about 150,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies IC 4941 , IC 4942 , IC 4961 .

The object was discovered by Royal Harwood Frost on August 31, 1904 .
