IC 4946 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type SB0 / a in the constellation Sagittarius on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 129 million light years from the Milky Way and about 95,000 light years in diameter.
Together with NGC 6902 and PGC 64580 ( NGC 6902B ) it forms the small NGC 6902 group or LGG 434 .
The object was discovered by Lewis Swift on September 11, 1897 .
