IC 4992 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBc in the constellation Peacock in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 181 million light years from the Milky Way and about 130,000 light years across. She is considered a member of the ten galaxies counting NGC 6876 group ( LGG 432 ).
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies IC 4982 and IC 4985 .
The type IIP supernova SN 2010gw was observed here.
The object was discovered by DeLisle Stewart on September 21, 1900 .
