The handball Bundesliga 2019/20 (full name after the main sponsor Liqui Moly Handball-Bundesliga 2019/20 ) was the 42nd of the single-track seasons and the 54th season of the highest German division in men's handball in the history of the Bundesliga . The season started on August 22, 2019 and should end with the last matchday on May 14, 2020.
HBW Balingen-Weilstetten and HSG Nordhorn-Lingen were promoted to the new season . The 2019/20 season was the first season without the Bundesliga founding member VfL Gummersbach .
After the season on March 12, 2020 was initially suspended until April 19 due to the COVID-19 pandemic , it was canceled on April 21, 2020. THW Kiel was declared a master.
The relegation regulation was suspended, there were no relegated members, the HSC 2000 Coburg and TUSEM Essen could qualify as promoters for the next season . The 2020/21 season will be played with 20 teams.
mode
This season 18 teams played in the mode everyone against everyone with one home and one away game for the German championship. In the event of a tie, the better goal difference decided. The first in the table on the last match day should be German champions 2020, the last two should be relegated to the 2nd division . With the Corona-related termination of the season, however, it was determined that no team would be relegated this season. Together with the two newcomers HSC 2000 Coburg and TUSEM Essen , 20 clubs will take part in the next season, in which there will be four relegated teams.

** Since the season was evaluated based on the quotient rule ([(plus points / number of games played) * 100]) due to the different number of games played at the time of the cancellation, the Rhein-Neckar Löwen took the better ratio ( 130.8 to 129.6) despite the fewer points scored 5th place ahead of Füchsen Berlin.

Venues
All clubs are listed in the table, including their home venues and capacities. For economic reasons, some clubs have larger home venues for particularly interesting games or for less interesting smaller ones. GWD Minden had to change its venue at the beginning of 2020 due to the closure of the Kampa hall.
Venues of the 1st handball Bundesliga 2019/20 The Rhein-Neckar Löwen play in Mannheim , MT Melsungen plays in Kassel , HC Erlangen in Nuremberg , GWD Minden since 2020 in Lübbecke and Bergische HC in Wuppertal , Solingen and Düsseldorf .
