NGC 6860 is a spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type Sb: in the constellation Peacock in the southern sky . It is an estimated 196 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 80,000 light years in diameter . 
The galaxies IC 4936 , IC 4939 , IC 4951 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on August 11, 1836 by the astronomer John Herschel with his 18.7-inch reflector telescope and was later included in his New General Catalog by Johan Dreyer .
