Against the Current is an American pop / rock band from Poughkeepsie , New York that was formed in 2011. The band consists of lead singer Christina "Chrissy" Costanza , guitarist and background singer Daniel "Dan" Gow and drummer William "Will" Ferri. The band is best known for their YouTube channel with the name "againstthecurrentNY" , which currently has over 2 million subscribers and over 330 million views.

history

Against the Current founded their YouTube channel on August 6, 2011, the first publicly available video was taken on July 14, 2012. This is the band's first original to be called Thinking . In the next few years, the band mainly gained attention through cover versions with established YouTube musicians such as Alex Goot , Sam Tsui and Kurt Hugo Schneider . Starting in 2014, they regularly published independent works, both cover versions and originals. The cover of "Red" (originally by Taylor Swift ) stood out with 13 million views.

After releasing their first EP Infinity on May 27, 2014 , the band went on a Southeast Asia and Australia tour with Alex Goot in August. The EP Gravity followed on February 17, 2015, while the first song was released as a foretaste on their YouTube channel in November 2014. In the spring of 2015 she toured the USA together with the band "Set It Off". In the period from August 26, 2015 to November 21, 2015, Against the Current started their first world tour, which began in Asia, continued in Europe and ended in the United States. The band announced on YouTube on April 4, 2015 that they were signed to the Fueled by Ramen label . Talk from the EP Gravity took first place as Song of the Year 2015 in Kerrang magazine.

On September 15, 2017, Riot Games announced that it would use the song Legends Never Die as the official theme song for the 2017 League of Legends World Cup.

In spring 2018 Against the Current supported Fall Out Boy during their European tour, together with the New York duo Maxhellskitchen . From September 15, 2018 to October 11, 2018, she toured Europe on the occasion of her second album Past Lives , which was released on September 28, 2018.
