Kurt Hugo Schneider (born September 7, 1988 in Baltimore , Maryland ) is an American musician , singer , songwriter , filmmaker and web video producer . He produces music videos for various YouTube artists, such as Sam Tsui , who all differ greatly due to their sophisticated creativity. Among other things, numerous lavish one-take videos have already been shot, as well as medley videos in which Tsui simulates a one-man choir.

biography

Schneider grew up in Blue Bell , a suburb of Philadelphia just one street away from Sam Tsui, whom he met at Wissahickon High School . Schneider has German and Austrian roots, and by his own admission, both grandparents on his father's side were born in Vienna. Schneider graduated from Yale University with a degree in mathematics in 2010 ; During his studies he was accepted into the Phi-Beta-Kappa community. He has an older sister who is a classical pianist.

Schneider became National Chess Master at the age of 15 and played for the Yales chess team.

Career

Schneider began working with Tsui during his high school and college years, producing videos of Tsui singing covers and medleys. He also shot an online musical series called College Musical with Sam Tsui and other actors and produced Tsui's own songs. Only four episodes of the online series were published on YouTube.

The two received their first media attention with a Michael Jackson medley, this video was viewed around 35 million times. His channel has over 3 billion views and over 12 million subscribers. The clip with the most views right now is Just A Dream by Nelly - Sam Tsui & Christina Grimmie , with over 170 million views. The medley is one of many in which Schneider uses video programs to create a one-man choir in which Tsui sings both the main and background voices and appears in the video in several places at the same time. This medley has been described by Time as a mixture of glee and attack of the clones . The viral videos resulted in some appearances on American television such as: B. The Oprah Winfrey Show or The Ellen DeGeneres Show . On February 3, 2011, a cover of Hold it against me , in which Sam Tsui plays the piano and Schneider does the percussion , was linked to Britney Spear's official website.

The popularity that the two achieved with their videos led them to expand their activities to other YouTube projects, so that their film College Musical: The Movie could be completed in the summer of 2010 . This film is based on the previously uploaded parts of the College Musical web series . However, this film was only released in 2014. In September 2010 Schneider and Tsui began to publish their own pieces, in May 2013 Tsui's album Make it up was published.

Although Schneider primarily works with Tsui, there are also regular music projects with other artists who are mostly active on YouTube, just like him. Works together with Alex Goot , Tyler Ward , Max Schneider , Megan Nicole and Lindsey Stirling were produced. Kurt Hugo Schneider, who produced the song of the same name for the album, was also represented in the production of Christina Grimmie's debut album "Find Me".
