Bente Benedigte Børsum (born June 21, 1934 in Oslo ) is a Norwegian actress . She gained fame through her appearances at the Oslo Nye Teater and the Nationaltheatret .

Life

Bente Børsum was born in Oslo in 1934. Her mother Lise Børsum (1908–1985) was part of the Norwegian resistance movement in World War II and was sentenced to prison in Ravensbrück concentration camp in 1943 . After returning to Norway in 1945, she left her family, so Bente and her older brother were raised by their father.

In the mid-1950s, Bente Børsum enrolled at the National Drama School in Oslo, which she attended for three years. Her acting career began in 1958 when she was hired as an actress at the Nationaltheatret. In 1959 Børsum played her first film role in Jakten . This was followed by appearances at the Oslo Nye Teater, where she remained active as an actress until 1979. From 1989 to 1992 Børsum was the director of the Norwegian National Academy of Theater. She still appears as an actress in films to this day. Børsum ended her official stage career in 2005 with an appearance in Federico García Lorca's Bernarda Alba's house . However, she has continued to appear sporadically in small roles in plays since then. For her lifetime performance as an actress, Børsum received the Living Legacy Award from the Women's International Center in 1995.

In addition to her acting career, Børsum has been a speaker nationally and outside Norway since 2006 with her program Min forestilling om mor , which is a monologue about her mother.

Bente Børsum was married twice and has one daughter. Today she mainly lives in Frogner near her native Oslo, but also owns a house in Son . Børsum also lived temporarily in Greece , on a farm in Africa and in southern France .
