The Benten Island ( Japanese 弁 天 島 Benten-zima , English Benten Island ) is a small island off the Prince Harald coast of the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . It is located 8 km west of the island of Ongulkalven in the eastern part of the Lützow-Holm Bay .
It was mapped on the basis of measurements and aerial photographs of a Japanese Antarctic expedition (1957–1962). The island is named after Benten , the "sky goddess of eloquence" from Shinto .
