Esteban Benzecry

Esteban Benzecry (born April 13, 1970 in Lisbon ) is an Argentine composer of Portuguese origin.

Benzecry studied at the Prilidiano Pueyrredon Art School in Buenos Aires until 1992 . He then studied composition with Sergio Hualpa and Haydee Gerardi . From 1997 he studied composition with Jacques Charpentier at the Conservatoire de Paris . He also took composition lessons with Paul Méfano and studied electroacoustic music with Luis Naón and Laurent Cuniot . He graduated from the Conservatoire in 1999 with the Premier Prix à l'unanimité .

In 1995 Benzencry was resident composer at the Swiss Yehudi Menuhin Academy , from 2002 to 2005 at the Casa de Velazquez in Madrid. In 2008 he received a composition grant from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation .

His First Symphony and La Lumiere de Pacha Camac were recognized as the best Argentine compositions of the year by the Argentine Critics Association in 1994 and 1996, respectively. The Académie des Beaux-Arts awarded Benzencry the Prix ​​de la Foundation Delmas in 1999 , the Prix ​​Tronchet in 2002 and the Prix ​​Georges Wildenstein in 2006 .
