Benzoid

Benzoid is a cyclic chemical structure in which three double bonds are formally retained within a single six-membered ring ( benzene ring ). Polycyclic benzoid hydrocarbons or benzoid aromatics are compounds that contain two or more condensed benzene rings.

A benzoid ring is in accordance with the Hückel rule , has an exceptional stability and makes a considerable contribution to stabilizing the resonance of cations in polycyclic aromatics .

Many benzoid aromatics (e.g. toluene , styrene , naphthalene ) are present in coal tar and can be isolated from it. Others can be represented, for example, by electrophilic substitution.
