Berberis bristolensis

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Berberis × bristolensis is a horticultural hybrid of the beautiful flowering barberry ( Berberis calliantha ) and the warty barberry (Berberis verruculosa ).

Berberis × bristolensis is a dense, cushion-forming evergreen shrub with elliptical, prickly-toothed leaves . These are up to 4 inches long; they are shiny green on the top and heavily frosted on the underside. In autumn they turn red. The yellow flowers appear in late spring and are solitary, in twos or threes. The berries are oblong-egg-shaped and blue-black in color.

Like many other barberries, this type of plant is used as an ornamental shrub.
