The warty barberry ( Berberis verruculosa ) is a species of plant from the genus of the barberry ( Berberis ) in the family of the barberry family (Berberidaceae) originating from China .

distribution

The home of the warty barberry is in China in western Sichuan . It was introduced in Europe in 1904 by Ernest Henry Wilson , who collected plants for Veitch and Sons in western and central China from 1899 to 1905 .

description

The warty barberry is a dense, evergreen shrub that reaches heights of up to 2 meters. The annual twigs are rough and arched and covered with very fine initially brown, later black warts. The numerous leaves are small, their edges slightly bent, shiny dark green and whitish underneath. The leaf spines are tripartite and up to 2 cm long. The mostly single flowers are golden yellow. The cylindrical berries are black-purple.
