The snowy barberry ( Berberis candidula ), and Evergreen pillow barberry called, is a plant from the family of Barberry (Berberidaceae). It comes from western China and was introduced by Père Farges in 1895.

description

The snowy barberry is a small, dense, evergreen shrub . The bark of the annual twigs is only loosely covered with blackish warts. The small leaves are glossy dark green and silvery white underneath, their edges are slightly curved. The leaf spines are tripartite and up to 2 cm long. The single flowers are light yellow. The elliptical berries are blue-black and frosted.

Like many other barberries, this species is used as an ornamental shrub.

With the warty barberry ( Berberis verruculosa ), the snowy barberry forms the hybrid Berberis × frikartii C.K.Schneid. ex Laar .

With the common Oregon grape ( Mahonia aquifolium ) the snowy barberry forms the genus hybrid x Mahoberberis aquicandidula H. Jensen .
