history

Pre- and founding history

Already in the 60s of the 19th century "raftsmen and boatmen from Laufen under their leader Standel" gave guest performances in Berchtesgaden almost every year. Other theater groups, including Upper Bavarian farmers' theaters , also had Berchtesgaden on their tour schedule at that time .

In 1905, Franz Gritl founded the Berchtesgadener Bauerntheater , which, in addition to performances at the main venue Berchtesgaden, also went on guest tours in winter. a. several times in the USA .

Front theater

The ensemble of the Berchtesgadener Bauerntheater was used as a front theater during the two world wars . Only in the years 1944 and 1945 was the theater completely stopped after the actors were drafted into the war. Under the patronage of Rudolf Kriss , the Berchtesgadener Bauerntheater resumed theater operations after the end of the war and in the meantime appointed the chairman of the United Christmas Shooters of the Berchtesgadener Land, Franz Kurz, as the new director.

Guest and television appearances

When Franz Hafner took over the management of the theater in 1949, the Berchtesgadener Bauerntheater not only continued its pre-war successes, but also increased its reputation . Up until 1982 alone, Hafner had staged 93 world premieres and a total of 322 pieces - mainly comedies and comedies, but also serious plays. From the 1950s the ensemble of the Berchtesgadener Bauerntheater played in South Africa, Namibia, Oman and Bahrain, among others.

Open-air stage on the Kälberstein

House stage

The first main venue was the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten , later the former Hotel Krone in Bahnhofstrasse, and since 1937 it has been the "Watzmannsaal" in an annex of the Hotel Watzmann on Franziskanerplatz opposite the Franciscan Church .

Open-air stage on the Kälberstein

After Ludwig Ganghofer had planned an "open-air theater" on the Kugelfeld ( Lage ) in Berchtesgaden in 1904 , but did not realize it, in the mid-1990s, under Elisabeth Hölzl-Michalsky, an open-air stage was set up in the quarry on the Kälberstein ( Lage ) to join the ensemble of the Berchtesgadener Bauerntheater u. a.
