from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Berdimuhamedow Monument is an equestrian statue of the Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow in Ashgabat , the capital of the Central Asian state.

location

The monument is located on a square in a central location in the Turkmen capital Ashgabat, in the immediate vicinity of the monument is the Oguzkhan Presidential Palace . Before the Berdimuhamedow monument was erected, the neutrality arch , which embodied the personality cult around the former president Saparmyrat Nyýazow , was located on the site . In August 2010, on Berdimuhamedow's instructions, the neutrality arch was moved to a less central part of the city. Soon afterwards, plans began for a new monument that would honor the new President Berdimuhamedow and contribute to the emergence of a personality cult comparable to that of his predecessor.

monument

The monument with a total height of more than 20 meters consists of a mighty base made of white marble on which the equestrian statue of the president is placed. This is covered with 24- carat gold leaf . The representation is a reference to Berdimuhamedow's passion for horses and equestrian sports. Every year he takes part in horse races on the occasion of the Turkmen Horse Day and has even produced a music video in honor of his favorite horse .

The monument was officially opened on May 25, 2015.
