The Oguzkhan Presidential Palace ( Turkmen Oguz han köşki ) is a building in Ashgabat , the capital of Turkmenistan . It is the official residence of the President.

location

The Presidential Palace is located in the Turkmen capital Ashgabat on Independence Square , one of the central squares of the city. There are other important buildings in the area, such as the State Art Academy and the Turkmen Central Bank.

History of origin

The new presidential palace was built on behalf of Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow , who took office after the death of former president Saparmyrat Nyýazow in 2006. In this role he tried to narrow down the personality cult around his predecessor, who was revered as the Turkmenbashi, the "leader of the Turkmen". In addition, Berdimuhamedow sought a stronger positioning of his own person, which should also be reflected architecturally in the capital. In addition to the erection of structures such as the Berdimuhamedow Monument , the president also ordered the construction of a new presidential palace, as the old Turkmenbashi presidential palace from 1997 no longer met the requirements for such a building.

The project was implemented by the French construction company Bouygues , which had already carried out several projects in Turkmenistan, including the construction of the former presidential palace. Work began in 2008 and was completed in spring 2011. On May 18, 2011, Berdimuhamedow opened his official residence with a solemn ceremony.

building

The presidential palace is built of white marble , which is adorned with numerous gold ornaments. The three golden domes in particular shape the appearance of the building. Inside the building you will find all the requirements for international discussions with up to fourteen delegations. Numerous halls can be used for international meetings, including the so-called Golden Hall, which is reserved for the highest state guests. There is also modern equipment for holding press conferences and for live broadcasts from the presidential palace.
