Berent Madsen

Berent Madsen (born January 18, 1845 in Bergen , Norway ; † May 14, 1865 in Düsseldorf ) was a Norwegian landscape painter from the Düsseldorf School .

Life

Madsen, son of the shoemaker and tanner Berent Madsen, showed an early talent in oil painting and copying small pictures. Under Henrich Bucher and Jan C. Meyer he attended the art school in Bergen. With a circle of artists around Marcus Grønvold (1845–1929) he made trips around Bergen, where he created figure and landscape studies. In autumn 1864 he traveled to Düsseldorf , where he attended the Royal Prussian Art Academy under Andreas Müller and Heinrich Lauenstein . In the spring of the following year he died of tuberculosis in the house of his compatriot Morten Müller .
