The Beresina ( Russian Березина ; Belarusian Бярэзіна / Bjaresina ) is a right tributary of the Upper Dnieper in Russia and Belarus .

It has its source near the Belarusian village of Malkawa in Vitebskaya Woblasz . Of its 63 km total length, 6 km are on Belarusian territory and the rest on Russian territory in Smolensk Oblast . It flows through the Rudnjanski and Krasninski Rajons in a predominantly east-southeast direction. Finally, the Beresina flows into the Dnieper near the village of Gussino .

The river should not be confused with the Bjaresina in Belarus, which became known by its Russian name, also Beresina, from the Battle of the Beresina , in which Napoleon's troops were finally defeated during the Russian campaign in 1812 . The Bjaresina flows further west and flows a good 200 km downstream into the Dnieper.
