The Krásno Mining Museum is a Czech museum in Krásno nad Teplou about the history of mining . It is affiliated with the Sokolov District Museum . There are exhibits in the open air and in various buildings on the site. In addition to exhibits from recent history, a section is devoted to medieval mining techniques. The buildings are u. a. around the former machine room, the winding tower and the transformer station .

history

The museum was established in 1998 on the site of the former Wilhelmschacht tin mine (Vilém), where mining was stopped in 1991. It opened on September 5, 1998.

In 1991 the Stannum mine and other mining operations were shut down. Through various efforts, including the Mining Museum in Příbram , parts of the former Vilém mine and the property were transferred to what was then the Sokolov District Museum.

In 1994 the steam hoist was brought to the museum as the first exhibit . During the construction, repairs were carried out and the machine was installed in the workshop building. This building was opened to the public in 1998. In 2003, the mining railway in the Sokolov district closed, locomotives and wagons were relocated to Krásno.

In 2004, the second part of the exhibition, mainly dedicated to mining, opened. In 2007 an exhibition of early modern mining followed in the former workshop building. In 2011 the main building was modernized and the exhibition on lignite and ore as well as on the city of Krásno was opened. This also includes an exhibit by the sculptor and ceramic artist Willy Russ .

Since then, locomotives and wagons with gauges of 450 and 600 mm from the tunnels of the Slavkov district and a gauge of 900 mm from lignite mining have been on display. In addition, there is a section on mining transports, mining rescue and an exhibition on the villages that have disappeared due to mining activities. The mine train runs for visitors from May to October.

Exhibits

The largest exhibit in the former facility is the 54-tonne steam hoisting machine. It was brought to the museum in 1994 from the closed Marie mine in Královské Poříčí . Delivered in Prague in 1897 by the Bohemian-Moravian Machine Factory with construction number 872, it was installed and put into operation in the same year. It is a horizontal double cylinder machine with steam distribution through rocker arms. The machine ran in the mine for 98 years. Apart from a major repair that was carried out in the 1950s, no major maintenance was required during the entire operating time. With a few exceptions, all machine components are original and fully functional.
