Willy soot

Willy Russ , actually Willibald Russ (born June 7, 1887 in Schönfeld , Egerland , † June 27, 1974 in Merkershausen ) was an Austro-Hungarian sculptor and ceramist.

Life

After attending the ceramics college in Teplitz-Schönau , Russ studied sculpture at the Vienna School of Applied Arts . From 1906 he worked for the Wiener Werkstätte . The architect Ernst Lichtblau used him for ceramic building sculptures and facade designs - for example for the “Chocolate House” in Vienna- Hietzing, which is now a listed building .

After marrying Anna Ruppert, he returned to Schönfeld and opened a ceramic workshop. Soot created utility ceramics and figures in the Art Déco style , crucifixes and depictions of Mary, but also designs for monuments such as the Goethe monument in Marienbad .

In 1946 Willi Russ and his family were driven from the Egerland to Lower Franconia.
