Geopark Bavaria-Bohemia

The Geopark Bavaria-Böhmen (Czech: Geopark Bavorsko-Čechy) is a cross-border geopark with geological features of both border regions.
The Geopark includes parts of Upper Franconia and the Upper Palatinate in northeast Bavaria with attractions in the districts of Bayreuth , Wunsiedel , Tirschenreuth and Neustadt an der Waldnaab as well as in the Czech Republic in the districts of Karlsbad and Pilsen . The landscape of the natural area includes Franconian Switzerland , the Fichtel Mountains , the Western Ore Mountains as well as the Upper Palatinate Forest and the Imperial Forest .
The special features of the area include museums, educational and adventure trails, geotopes , visitor mines and visitor caves . The Egerrift or Egergraben is due to volcanic activity. Mining, with its historical roots in the Middle Ages, has left its mark. Traditional craftsmanship is the processing of glass and porcelain. Geosciences pioneers such as Johann Wolfgang von Goethe , Alexander von Humboldt , Georg zu Münster , Karl Friedrich Wilhelm Braun , Carl Wilhelm von Gümbel and Mathias von Flurl explored the region.
