Helmut Wolf (born June 21, 1937 in Troppau , Czechoslovakia ) is a German geologist , museum director and local researcher .

Life

Wolf was born in Silesia and came to West Germany after World War II . He studied geology and worked as a doctor of geology at the State Research Institute for Applied Mineralogy in Regensburg, which was founded by Karl Hugo Strunz . For many years he headed the Upper Palatinate Open Air Museum Neusath-Perschen . As chief curator in the Upper Palatinate district , Wolf had been involved in the Mining and Industry Museum in East Bavaria in Theuern since 1972 , in particular with the structure and conception of the museum. From November 1, 1982 as technical director of the facility. Until the end of 2003 he was entrusted with the further development and management of the museum.

Research into the geological history of the Upper Palatinate became his central area of ​​knowledge. He also created the concept "GeoAkademie Ostbayern-Böhmen", which formed the basis for the Academy for Nature and Industrial Culture East Bavaria-Böhmen founded in 2009 in Neustadt an der Waldnaab and the Geopark Bavaria-Böhmen . Bilateral he worked with the National Technical Museum in Prague in 1994 and 1996 for the exhibition "The gold in the heart of Europe" and the Georgius Agricola Foundation in the region Kaiserwald together (les Slavkov).

As museum director, he organized numerous cultural days, symposia and exhibitions on the Lower Bavarian and Upper Palatinate porcelain and glass industry, including several exhibitions on the subject of pressed glass (the first compiled by Christiane Sellner in 1986), the Bavarian-Bohemian Colloquia and the 2000 Art Summit on Monte Kaolino near Hirschau , where twelve artists showed their light and sound installations. He is a juror for the MZ Museum Prize.

He was retired on March 31, 2002 and was provisional director of the Mining and Industry Museum in East Bavaria until the end of 2003. Since then he has been working on a voluntary basis, for example as managing director of the Bayerische Eisenstrasse working group , for the Academy for Nature and Industrial Culture East Bavaria-Böhmen and the Friends and Sponsors Association of the East Bavarian Mining and Industry Museum .
