Mining and Industry Museum East Bavaria
The Mining and Industry Museum East Bavaria in Theuern (municipality of Kümmersbruck ) is a nationally important museum that researches and documents the mining and industry of the entire East Bavarian region. It is part of the North Bavarian Industriestrasse .
history
The Upper Palatinate has always been a center of iron ore mining and has long been the location of ironworks , such as the Maxhütte in Sulzbach-Rosenberg , as well as pits , for example in Auerbach until the 20th century .
In addition, kaolin mining (e.g. in Hirschau ) also played a major role in the porcelain industry . The museum was established in 1978 in the former Hammerherrenschloss Theuern .
The signet of the mining and industrial museum are three stylized flames - as a symbol for the medieval iron creature: the punch mark to identify the products of the Theuerner hammer.
Cultural use
In addition to exhibition rooms, the castle itself also has two halls that can generally be rented for events.
In addition to exhibitions and conferences such as the annual EDV Days, the Kulturschloss Theuern has recently been offering numerous readings as well as music and cabaret events with well-known Bavarian and supraregional celebrities.
Outdoor facilities
In addition to the castle, the museum area includes three other industrial monuments typical of the region, which have been transferred to Theuern. An iron hammer mill, a shaft and a glass grinding and polishing plant were built, which has also housed the East Bavaria Electricity Museum since 1996 .
