The Berghaus Iseler is a group house in the Allgäu.

location

The Berghaus Iseler is located outside the village of Oberjoch , the highest mountain village in Germany, on the western slope of the Iseler at about 1230 m above sea level.

history

The Berghaus Iseler was built under General Walter von Reichenau for an Ulm intelligence unit. After the Second World War, it was confiscated as military assets along with about 50 other mountain huts. These were awarded to the Free State of Bavaria, which distributed them to the state sports associations.

The Berghaus Iseler belonged to the Württemberg State Sports Association until the early 1970s . When he ran into financial difficulties due to the renovation of his Hegele house in Oberjoch , the University of Tübingen bought the Berghaus for 370,000 DM and believed it could renovate it for less than 200,000 DM. The renovation was more than ten times as expensive, despite the many voluntary services provided by university employees, so that a total of 2.2 million DM from donations had to be invested before moving in in 1976. A board in the Berghaus lists the names of the donors.

The house is furnished in the typical rural style of the Allgäu . The rooms are simple, but functional and comfortably furnished. The former large bedroom in the attic was converted into multi-bed rooms in autumn 2001.

sale

The University of Tübingen planned to sell its guest house because of the upcoming renovation costs of 1.3 million euros. Between 2000 and 2012, a low occupancy rate of only 32% in the guest house required subsidies totaling 390,000 euros.

Despite vehement protests from professors and alumni, who found more than 2,000 opponents against the sale in a petition, the house was sold to the owners of the neighboring Hotel Mathlihüs in February 2014.
